Medailérsky klub and Spoločnosť Andreja Hlinku (Andrej Hlinka Society) present:

Commemorative medal for the 160th anniversary of the birth of Msgr. Andrej Hlinka (1864) and 30th anniversary of the Andrej Hlinka Order (1994).

The obverse of the medal was created by the academic sculptor Marián Polonský out of respect to Andrej Hlinka. The portrait of the medal is based on the Order of Andrej Hlinka for Extraordinary Merits for the Establishment of the Independent Slovak Republic, the author of which is Ladislav Čisárik junior, and the portrait has been made by Marián Polonský.

– author of the obverse academic sculptor Marián Polonský, 2024,
– diameter 70 mm
– minted by Mincovňa Kremnica (Kremnica Mint), state-owned enterprise

On the obverse of the medal, besides the portrait of Andrej Hlinka, there is also his message to the Slovak nation „Drahý národe slovenský! Vyšiel som z Teba, žil som Tebe a pre Teba“ (“Dear Slovak Nation! I came out of you and I lived for you”), spoken at a festive celebration in Ružomberok on the occasion of his 70th birthday, and in the left part the coat of arms of Ružomberok.

Reverse of the medal Mother of Seven Sorrows – Patroness of Slovakia by Peter Kočvara, plaster model Jiří Hanuš
The border of the medal is formed by the outline of the flower of a wild rose, consisting of five petals, which express eternity, the sun and perfection – which also forms the Order of Andrej Hlinka and as it is also on the coat of arms of the town of Ružomberok, the birthplace of Andrej Hlinka. Inside is depicted the Šaštín Pieta – the Mother of the Seven Sorrows – the Patroness of Slovakia (Matka Sedembolestná – Patrónka Slovenska), with the prayer Intercede for us (Oroduj za nás), based on a wooden statue from 1564, the central sacral element of the national shrine of the Basilica of the Virgin Mary of the Seven Sorrows in Šaštín. In 1927, Pope Pius XI proclaimed Our Lady of Sorrows as the Patroness of Slovakia with the decree Celebre apud Slovaccham gentem. In 1864, on the statue’s tercentenary, Pope Pius IX allowed its second coronation. Andrej Hlinka was also born.
The composition consists of a simplified silhouette of the panorama of the Tatra Mountains with the 3 most prominent and highest peaks in the upper part: on the left Kriváň (2 495 m), in the middle the highest Gerlach peak (2 655 m) with the typical Gerlach cauldron and on the right Lomnický peak (2 634 m). Through the Tatra Mountains, the entire composition is illuminated from above by the sun’s rays, also falling on the Slovak emblem on the left and the outline of the map of Slovakia, three rays fall on Šaštín, Černová (part of the town Ružomberok), the birthplace of Andrej Hlinka, and Litmanová, the place of the apparition of Our Lady of Immaculate Purity on the mountain Zvir between 1990 and 1995.
Under the Slovak emblem there is a linden branch – the Slovak national tree, a symbol of Slavs, freedom, peace and hope, but also of love and loyalty or resilience and permanence.
On the right there is a branch of the wild rose, symbolising strength and its thorns the ultimate sacrifice, it is strongly associated with the Christian faith and a symbol of purity and love that can conquer all. It also symbolises the eternally living soul and has also become a Marian symbol.

Commemorative medal Ad Honorem Rudolf Pribiš – medallist, sculptor, teacher

On the obverse, alongside the portrait, is a fragment of his iconic relief Kone from 1943 (15 x 89 cm).
